The upturned rocks are immediately to the right of the fault.
The clouds have lfited, and we were able to hike out to Harper's Overlook. The geology here is amazing. Directly below are the upturned rock strata of the Mitten Park Fault. The Green River enters the photo from the upper left, and behind Steamboat Rock is joined by the Yampa (vissible on the upper right).
A wider view of Echo Park. Jutting nto the "park" is Steamboat Rock. In the 1950's the Bureau of Reclamation planned to build a dam here, which would have inundated the Green and Yampa River. While environmental groups stopped this dam, they were unable to stop the Glen Canyon dam, which arguably caused much greater environmental losses.
