Continuing along the canyon rim, the trail affords a great view of the so-called Jackson Stairway. When a Chaco road reached a cliff, they tend to carve stairs and go straight up like this.

And as we make our way on around the head of the canyon, Sue is at the very top of the Jackson Stairway. It is very steep, actually convex. How did the ancient ones negotiated these?
