This is taken from above part of what we avoided. Look closely near the bottom center of the photo, you can see a rope loop left to assist those who might want to go up the canyon, the hard way.
To complete our loop, we hike a bit under 2 miles across the broken face of the San Rafael Reef. Initially, the trail is obvious, but soon deteriorates. There are numerous small canyons to negotiate around, until one finds THE canyon to drop into. Thank goodness I had a set of good waypoints for this hike.
