Almost 13
Two great hikes with our Outdoor Club to the summits of two peaks in the South San Juan Mountains that are "almost" 13,000 ft. First up was Long Trek, 12,866 ft, approached via the Continental Divide Trail east of Pagosa. A beautiful stroll through open alpine meadows to the amazing views from the summit. The next week, the hike was to Blackhead Peak, 12,500 ft, a steep climb through forest to a brilliant ridge with a little scramble to access the final push to the summit. You guessed it, more great views.
