Summit Peak, July 2018
Summit Peak , 13,300 ft, is the highest point in Archuleta County and worthy of it's title as the Monarch of the South San Juan Mountains. But it's a long bumpy drive to get there, so though its been on our radar for some time, this was our first time to hike it. With Doug, Miyuki and Tony, we approached from the Treasure Creek trailhead. From there, it's only a bit over 3 miles and 2300 vertical feet, through splendid alpine meadows to the spectacular summit on the Continental Divide. Despite a forecast for rain, the weather held and it was a great day in the mountains.
