John Muir Trail Part 1-Bishop to Palisade Lake
I joined 4 friends from Knoxville for a 9 day backpack on the John Muir Trail (JMT) in the eastern Sierra Nevada of California. Will Skelton planned the trip, with detailed mapping and campground selection from Ron Shrieves. John Finger and Rob Davis filled out the group. The JMT is one of the premier long distance hikes in the world. Although we hiked only a portion, the dramatic Sierra scenery, and the fact that we were able to hike in true wilderness for 9 days, makes for a very special trip. We hiked about 65 miles through the John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park, and averaged an elevation gain AND loss of 1500 ft per day.
