Petroglyphs and Lava Flows, Southern New Mexico
Sue and I decided to detour from our normal drive across New Mexico from Texas to Pagosa Springs to visit some of the natural attractions in the south central part of the state. First up was a hike at the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site. Over 20,000 petroglyphs have been recorded in this area, made by the Jornada Mogollon people around a 1000 years ago. These petroglyphs are much different than what we are used to seeing in Southern Utah. Our second stop was at the nearby Valley of Fires recreation area, where we hiked among one of the youngest lava flows in North America.
