On the Road to Ruins, October 2012
Sue, Millie and I took an overnight drive to see ancestral Puebloan ruins in Sand Canyon (part of Canyon of the Ancients National Monument) and Hovenweep. Tuesday we hiked Sand Canyon, about 6 miles round trip. That's about Millie's limit on a warm afternoon. We spent the night in nearby Cortez, and the next morning drove about an hour to Hovenweep National Monument. We hiked about 2 miles around the amazing Square Tower complex at Little Ruin Canyon, then a couple of miles more at the nearby Holly-Horseshoe-Hackberry complex.
