Monte Vista NWR Cranes, March 2013
Having recently visited Aransas NWR to view Whooping Cranes, and Bosque del Apache to see wintering Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese, the next stop on our Crane trifecta was the Monte Vista NWR in the San Luis valley. Cranes pause here in early spring on their flight north. Not only are there thousands of cranes, but also geese and ducks, all with a fabulous backdrop of the Sangre de Christo Mountains.
