Lake Fork-Shaw Lake Hike
Three years ago, the West Fork Complex fire burned over 110,000 acres of forest, including 60,000 acres near Wolf Creek Pass. The forest recovers, but very slowly. Our Tuesday hike this week was through part of the burn zone, with the goal of recoverying part of the trail from being overgrown by aspen. Despite the ghostly burned trees, the grasses, wildflowers and aspen are thriving.

This is what much of the forest looks like along the Lake Fork Trail. Many burned trees, but some pockets of live evergreens. In the distance is Table Mountain.
