Grand Gulch Backpack, April 2022
For some time, I had been wanting to get back to the middle section of Grand Gulch, which has some fabulous rock art and ruins. And Sue had not seen some of this area. So we planned a short backpack to the area. By luck, our friends Roger and Susie were trailer camping nearby at the same time, and offered to provide a shuttle for us. This allowed us to see about 2X the amount of canyon we would have done on our own as an out and back trip. Weather was great, except for one windy night. We learned that "easy" access may not be as easy at a certain age as the guides would suggest. Trip length was about 24 miles in 4 days, plus another 9 miles exploring and looking for drinking water.

on May 26, 2022Great pictures Andy of a place we all love. I last did a backpack there in 2015 I think it was. Like you 3 nights, 4 days, we (Joan Tomlinson and me) went down Bullet, camped near Perfect Kiva, then for night 2 down to Grand Gulch. On night 3 we camped in lower Sheiks Canyon, then out Sheiks and a bit of road walk at the end to the Bullet Canyon Trailhead. A wonderful place. My impression was that however there is much more vegetation than the old days when we hiked Grand Gulch.
